An interview with Rosie Atherton Of Rosie Atherton Wellbeing
Over the last 20 years, Rosie has been happily supporting men and women to heal and be well through intuitive massage with hot stones, crystals and scents of beautiful essential oils. She also loves giving gentle, nourishing pregnancy massages as well as energy work - informed by Shamanic, Chinese and Indian spiritual lineages. She’s based in Cornwall and also travels to London and Glastonbury to see clients. As well as working with the body, she offers nourishing wellbeing retreats, women's circles, yoga classes and healing mentoring.
What inspired you to start holding women's circles and retreats?
Rosie: Growing up in Cornwall and raised by spiritual parents with meditation and therapeutic practices, I have always had a natural calling to explore and nurture authentic spaces of gentle spirituality and healing with others. I have also been able to receive therapy and healing since an early age and know what it's like to be rock bottom and feel the benefits of a caring community, other therapists and healers.
In a previous life (alongside my healing and massage work) I was fortunate enough to be employed by a well-respected music booking agency in Islington, London, where we routed international tours for incredible artists on our roster. I later moved into the magical realms of music therapy and have also done some counselling training. This life experience, coupled with my passion for music, expanded my heart, helped me gain confidence holding events and communicating with people from all over the World. I first began offering retreats in Cornwall after a few of my clients had asked if I would please hold a wellbeing retreat for them. I took a financial leap of faith and booked my first day retreat at the stunning Pengelly Retreat, near Hayle in Cornwall. My first retreat filled up quickly and I enjoyed it so much I held another and another...
I still continue to follow this thread of fulfilment from being of service to others and connection to nature.
On my 42nd birthday, during a meditation, I had a vision of a tipi in my back garden - soon after a tipi found me! I had no plans of how I would use the tipi, the women's circles just seemed to naturally gravitate towards the tipi space and we settled around a fire in the earth. I feel my women's circles serve myself and other women looking for a genuine and deeper connection with other women, connection to the moon, and the elements.
What do you see as your most important job as a space holder/facilitator of women's spaces?
Rosie: To be relaxed, open and aware. Safe spaces come from the space holder feeling relaxed - this is when energy flows for a group, if we're blocking the waters cannot flow, and when we are awake and present, we see and feel clearly.
I also invest in my own ongoing therapy, meditation practice and mentorship, which I feel supports me staying in balance.
What has sitting in Circle given you?
Rosie: A greater sense of purpose, regular deeper genuine connection with women, a closer relationship with the cycles of the moon, the elements, my land and the seasons. I also feel the circles help me to be healthier; a better mother, friend and family member.
Tell us more about your retreats and Tipi Circles!
Rosie: My retreats and women's circles are held in beautiful sacred space in natural surroundings to support us to unwind, connect and reset. My retreats and women's circles are for anyone from all walks of life to join. I don't claim to be an expert and I am always learning from others, treating everyone as an equal. The yoga I share on retreat is very gentle and incisive (all levels) and strongly inspired by the Indian yoga teacher Desikachar. Our retreat menus are all vegetarian, lovingly planned and abundant, made my our experienced retreat chef Kate Levy.
Retreats always include massage or healing with me and at my residential retreats, guests have the opportunity to also experience other types of nourishing treatments. I share delicious, ethical ceremonial cacao at my women's circles and retreats, which I feel gently supports our hearts to open. I often invite other practitioners to join my retreats, offering a variety of holistic activities, such as art therapy, breathwork, astrology insight, foraging, journaling, music and dance. I'm excited to be holding my first retreat abroad for women in May 2026 at a really magical location in Portugal, as well as a mixed retreat in Spain next October 2026.
I also love to volunteer by holding free retreats for the young service users of the brilliant women's suicide prevention charity, Georgia's Voice, in Cornwall. I hope to fundraise for these young ladies to attend a residential retreat next year.
This work is an honour and a blessing, thank you very much for inviting me to walk with you a while.
